Gov't disburses 10 million face masks, other PPEs to schools

Government has taken measures to aid the reopening of schools which include the mapping of schools to health facilities to ensure effective support by health professionals should there be a health emergency.

Before the reopening, it trained key staff on health protocols, developed a comprehensive reopening guidelines and provided to all schools, district offices and regional education offices among others.

Government has so far supplied 10 million face masks to both private and public schools across the country to protect students from the covid-19 pandemic.

Government has also provided 9.9 million hand sanitizers to Primary, JHSs, and SHSs.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Thursday, January 28, 2021, the Director General of GES, Prof. Opoku Amankwah said government wanted to give each person two face masks but the first batch had already been sent with each person receiving one.

He added that From February 7, 2021, they will send the rest to the schools.

He said from next week, teams from national and regional levels including personnel from the GES and GHS will visit the schools to ensure thorough monitoring and do good evaluations and resolve issues in the schools as part of steps taken by the government during the reopening of schools.
