Gov’t tasked to properly investigate Airbus Saga

Co-Chair of the Citizens Movement Against Corruption (CMaC), a group  campaigning against corruption, Edem Senanu, has tasked government to properly investigate the Airbus as it has the tendency of bringing the image of Ghana down.
Airbus, a company noted for the manufacturing of Aircrafts, says it paid bribe in Ghana and some other African countries between 2011 and 2015.
This was revealed in a corruption investigation of business deals Airbus has been involved in for the past 10 years.
UK-based Newspaper, The Guardian, wring on the outcome of the UK’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) investigation stated that “Allison Clare, for the SFO, told the court the company had paid bribes in Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Taiwan and Ghana between 2011 and 2015.”
Following the explosive and embarrassing scandal, there have been calls by critics of the NDC for further investigation.
Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Co-Chair of the Citizens Movement Against Corruption (CMaC), Edem Senanu stated that it is proper that Ghana as a country picks the report and does the necessary internal investigations on the matter and punish persons who will be found culpable in the issue.
“It is important that in these things, especially with the national image at stake, we do everything to be sure that if something has gone wrong, somebody has been involved in actions that bring the corporate image of Ghana down, these people are found accountable. So, it is important that we get this thing properly investigated so we are all sure of what happened.” He said.
Meanwhile the President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Akufo -Addo has referred the Airbus bribery scandal to the Office of the Special Prosecutor for further investigations.
“President Akufo-Addo has taken notice of the judgement and its implications, and has referred it to the Office of Special Prosecutor to collaborate with its UK counterparts to conduct a prompt inquiry to determine the complicity or otherwise of any Ghanaian government official, past or present, involved in the said scandal, and to take the necessary legal action against any such official, as required by Ghanaian law.” A statement from the Presidency stated.
