The Private Universities Founders Association of Ghana (PUFA-Ghana) has expressed deep appreciation to the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives’ Association (GRNMA) for suspending its recent strike action.
In a press release dated Friday, June 13, PUFA-Ghana praised the GRNMA for demonstrating commitment to dialogue by returning to work despite ongoing challenges.
The association also acknowledged the efforts of the government, the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health, and other stakeholders whose engagement contributed to the suspension.
PUFA-Ghana recognised the hardships faced by nurses and midwives and extended condolences to families who lost loved ones during the strike. “No strike should cost a single Ghanaian life,” the statement read.
The association called for practical steps to prevent future strikes, including regular consultative forums, clear procedures for salary negotiations, and stronger welfare programs for health workers.
It also urged government to consider pausing court actions related to the strike as a sign of goodwill.
PUFA-Ghana pledged to support efforts to build a more resilient health system, stressing the need for continuous engagement, contingency planning, and public-private collaboration in healthcare.
Dr. Paul Kofi Fynn, President of PUFA-Ghana and Chancellor of Wisconsin International University College, signed off the release, reaffirming PUFA’s commitment to national development and healthcare improvement.
