Zoomlion Reaffirms Commitment to Sanitation and National Development

Zoomlion Ghana Limited has officially addressed public concerns and media reports regarding the status of its contract with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), clarifying that the agreement in question had simply reached its natural expiration and was not terminated or cancelled by government.

In a statement issued on Monday, the waste management giant explained that the YEA contract—specifically the Street Sweeping Programme—originally expired in March 2024 and was subsequently extended by six months, ending in September 2024. The company emphasized that this expiration was expected and should not be interpreted as a dismissal of their services.

“The contract has therefore reached its natural conclusion and expired,” the statement read. “Contrary to claims in some media reports, this expiration does not constitute a termination or cancellation of the agreement by the government.”

Zoomlion highlighted its nearly two-decade-long partnership with successive governments under the YEA sanitation module, asserting that this collaboration has contributed significantly to national environmental goals and the employment of thousands of frontline sanitation workers.

The company expressed strong support for the government’s recent directive to pursue competitive procurement for future sanitation-related contracts. Zoomlion noted that the now-expired YEA contract had itself been competitively awarded in 2019 and reaffirmed its readiness to participate in new bidding processes.

“With our proven track record of operational excellence and nationwide reach, we are well-positioned to compete effectively in future tenders and to deliver even greater impact,” the statement said.

Zoomlion further commended the government’s intention to improve remuneration for sweepers and sanitation workers. The company reiterated its dedication to promoting dignified work and sustainable livelihoods in the sanitation sector.

Additionally, Zoomlion welcomed all accountability measures outlined by the Presidency, including audits and payment verifications related to the expired contract. The firm stated that transparency and value for money remain central to its operations.

Citing growing interest in its sanitation model from 24 African nations, Zoomlion underscored its leadership role across the continent. According to the release, multiple countries have already signed agreements or launched feasibility studies to adopt Zoomlion’s waste management systems, reflecting both the company’s expertise and Ghana’s rising profile in Africa’s green transformation efforts.

Zoomlion concluded by reaffirming its commitment to supporting the government’s “RESET” agenda—focused on Rebuilding, Equity, Sustainability, Empowerment, and Transformation. The company pledged to continue collaborating with stakeholders to build a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Ghana.

As the country moves toward reforms in the sanitation sector, Zoomlion assured the public that its mission remains deeply aligned with national development goals and the well-being of everyday Ghanaians.

Zoomlion is Ghana’s foremost provider of waste management and sanitation services. For over 20 years, the company has played a key role in public health, environmental protection, and employment generation, with operations spanning across all 16 regions of the country.
