Mother of deceased final year student of Gwiraman Senior High School in the Western Region says his son wouldn’t have died if government had listened to calls to stop the reopening of the SHSs.
A 21-year-old final year student of Gwiraman Senior High School in the Western Region, Nathaniel Yankey, repeatedly dies of a suspected COVID-19 case on Wednesday, July 15, 2020.
Mena Adjoa Esoun who said with in an interview on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Ekourba Gyasi said although he blames the school authorities for the demise of his son, government also playes a role by opening the school in the first place.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has in a statement said Gwiraman Senior High School is not responsible for the death of the deceased.
“Management of GES wishes to state that the Gwiraman SHS is an E-block community day school. however some parents including parents of the deceased have hired their own private hostels for their wards where they reside and commute to amd from school on daily basis. Such hostels are run by private individuals and not by the school authority”, GES said in a statement.
