Patriotic Muslim Front (PMF), a coalition of young Muslim intellectuals, businessmen and students has called on President Akufo Addo to sack the Chairperson for the Hajj board, IC Quaye.

The Group wants Akufo-Addo to terminate the appointment of Sheikh I.C Quaye as the chairman of the Hajj Board for gross misconduct.

Ghanaian Muslims who wish to go on Pilgrimage to Mecca are to cough out GHS39, 000 and not the GHS19,500 that was paid in the last pilgrimage.

President for the Patriotic Muslim Fronts (PMF), Haruna Mohammed, who made this submission stated that following the just announced fees to be paid by Muslim Pilgrims by the Ghana Hajj Board, members of PMF, having been engaged by a lot of Muslim pilgrims, are charged to look into the unwarranted increase in the fees.

President for the Patriotic Muslim Fronts (PMF), Haruna Mohammed also called for an independent pilgrim’s compliant office should be established in the office of the president.

“As Sheikh, what do you want again, God has blessed IC Quaye with this age, so we are humbly appealing to him to step aside and bring to bear his wisdom, guide the youth, guide the competent people who can assist to achieve the dream and accomplish the mission of his excellency Nana Akufo-Addo. We in the PMF will call on Muslim Umma to demonstrate against His excellency the President should he refuse or heed to our plea as Muslims in this country.”

“The role of this office should be to address the complaints of pilgrims in consultation with the board and, when necessary, through the minister exercising oversight over the hajj board. This office should further be tasked to prepare a report for every particular Hajj to ensure transparency and accountability,” Mr. Mohammed stated.

Haruna Mohammed said the exorbitant fee is a strategy to disenfranchise the Muslims from taking part in the 2022 Hajj.

Haruna Mohammed also called on the Hajj Board to make public a breakdown of the cost buildup that necessitated the upward adjustment in the Hajj fees.
