Patriotic Muslim Front drags Hajj Board over 100% increase in Pilgrim fees

Hajj PMF

Patriotic Muslim Front (PMF), a coalition of young Muslim intellectuals, businessmen and students has called out the Hajj Board over a 100% increment in the Hajj fees.

Ghanaian Muslims who wish to go on Pilgrimage to Mecca are to cough out GHS39, 000 and not the GHS19,500 that was paid in the last pilgrimage.

President for the Patriotic Muslim Fronts (PMF), Haruna Mohammed, who made this submission stated that following the just announced fees to be paid by Muslim Pilgrims by the Ghana Hajj Board, members of PMF, having been engaged by a lot of Muslim pilgrims, are charged to look into the unwarranted increase in the fees.

According to Haruna Mohammed, the exorbitant fee is a strategy to disenfranchise the Muslims from taking part in the 2022 Hajj.

Haruna Mohammed also called on the Hajj Board to make public a breakdown of the cost buildup that necessitated the upward adjustment in the Hajj fees.

“Following the announcement of the fees to be paid by Muslim Pilgrims by the Hajj Board on the 6th June 2022, we in the Patriotic Muslim Front (PMF) after engaging a lot of prospective pilgrims are minded to question this year’s fares and the contemptuous breach of the contract that exists between the Board and the Hajj agency.”

“The board has reviewed its fees upward from GHS19,500 to GHS39, 000, an increase of 100% percent and as it that was not enough, Pilgrims who agreed to leave their monies with the board since 2020 conditioned on the agreement duly signed by their agents have also been asked to top of GHS7000 a clear breach of the paragraph 3 of the agreement signed on 20th June 2021,” President for PMF Haruna Mohammed told Press men.

Haruna Mohammed also revealed that the Patriotic Muslim Front (PMF) will not hesitate to seek redress in court for pilgrims involved in the breach of contract should the Hajj board sit unconcerned.
