Aboabo shooting: Suspect escaped without his gun- MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly, Alhaji Alidu Seidu says the suspect who shot into the air at Aboabo, killing a 16-Year-old boy escaped but left his gun at the scene.

According to him, when he (MCE) and the police got to the scene, they found blood on the floor and a locally manufactured gun.

The 16-year-old boy died after he was hit by a stray bullet at Aboabo Number Two in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred shortly after Islamic prayers to mark Eid ul-Adha on Tuesday, July 20.

During the celebrations, a group of jubilant youth fired gunshots indiscriminately, and Abdul-Gafar Kassim was hit in the process.

The 16-year-old boy was rushed to the Manhyia Government Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival after severe bleeding.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, Alhaji Alidu Seidu said, “The suspect left his gun and ran away.”

The MCE said the police also took samples of the blood on the scene for further investigations.

For the family of the boy, he said they suggested that the police gets a senior pathologist to determine if indeed the boy died from the shooting.

Alhaji Alidu Seidu said although the police had an intel of where the suspect was hiding, he was not found when the police got there.

Meanwhile, he said he will collaborate with the police to arrest the suspect.

“We know his name and the police is pursuing him, when we get him, we will make him face the law, and we will also make him help us with investigations, because i have never heard that people fire guns when they are celebrating,” he said.

Despite the killing, he said the community is very calm, adding that there are no issues.
