Jennifer Queen Demands Apology from A/R Minister Over Fire Service Clash

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, is facing backlash from Jennifer Oforiwaa Queen, Deputy National Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), who is demanding a public apology to the Ashanti Regional Fire Service Commander.

Her call follows a viral video showing the Minister speaking harshly to the Fire Service Commander while the officer was leading efforts to combat the devastating fire at Blue Light Arena in Adum, Kumasi on Friday, March 21, 2025.

The massive blaze, which destroyed over 5,000 shops, left business owners in despair and emergency responders overwhelmed. The fire, which started in the early hours of Friday, raged for nearly two days before it was finally contained by Sunday morning.

Speaking on Atinka FM’s Morning Show with host Ekow Budu Sam, Jennifer Queen condemned the Minister’s actions, stating that they were disrespectful and undermined the efforts of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

“The Minister’s behavior was unacceptable. These officers put their lives on the line to fight the fire, yet he chose to humiliate their leader in public. He must apologize to restore dignity and respect to the office,” – she insisted.

Her remarks reflect growing tension between the Minister and key stakeholders in the region following the fire disaster.

Jennifer Queen urged Dr. Amoakohene to swallow his pride and issue an unqualified apology to the Fire Service Commander.

“An apology will not only ease tensions but also rebuild trust between leadership and frontline responders. It is a matter of respect, accountability, and effective governance,” she added.

The Ashanti Regional Minister is yet to respond to the calls for an apology. However, the incident has sparked a broader debate on leadership, crisis management, and respect for emergency service personnel.
