Kasoa Okrudu River Overflow: Over 300 Homes Submerged at Opeikuma

Opeikuma

Over 300 houses have been submerged in Asamoah town, a suburb of Kasoa Opeikuma in the Awutu Senya East Municipality, after the Okrudu River overflowed its banks following three hours of heavy downpour.

The floodwaters have inundated homes, with many belongings floating on the surface.

Residents have attributed the flooding to the construction of houses on waterways, calling on the assembly to embark on a massive demolition exercise to address the issue.

In an interview with ATINKA NEWS, affected residents expressed concern over the encroachment on waterways, which they believe has forced the river to overflow its banks.

The residents are urging the assembly to take decisive action, citing demolition as the only solution to the problem.

In an interview with ATINKA NEWS Reporter Samuel Nyamekye Jnr, Hon. Adams Habibulai, Assembly Member for Opeikuma-Kumbe electoral area, has echoed the call for the assembly to put politics aside and demolish houses built alongside, the Okrudu River and waterways to prevent future occurrences.
