Manufacturers of bread in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region say they will increase the price of the product from next week.

Prices of loaves of bread were pegged between Gh¢5 and Gh¢6 in the beginning of the year but the prices have been increased to Gh¢8 and Gh¢7 within the last two weeks. However, the prices are set to increase again due to rising cost of production.

One of the manufacturers, Miss Eva Asante who spoke to Agyenkwa Fm’s reporter, Osofoba Kwame Afrifah said they are taking that action due to the indiscriminate increment in the prices of baking ingredients including flour, sugar, margarine, nutmeg and salt.

Bread sellers who also spoke with Osofoba Kwame Afrifah, confirmed that they are mostly discouraged from selling the bread anytime prices go high.

“Now that we sell the bread at Gh¢8 and Gh¢7, the consumers or customers keep on complaining as some have stopped purchasing the bread all due to the prices. So, we may consider stop selling bread if the producers increase the prices to Gh¢10 and ¢8 respectfully by next week,” the retailer said.
