Kwame Nkrumah’s contribution to the creative industry noncomparable – Chief Kofi Sammy

HighLife singer and leader of the popular Okukuseku International band, Chief Kofi Sammy has said that, apart from the first president of this country, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, no president has contributed immensely to the creative industry as he did.

Speaking to Roman Fada on Atinka Fm, the brain behind “Yellow Sisi” said, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was one of the leaders of this country who demonstrated that he really had the creative industry at heart.

He indicated that, because the first president of this country was much interested and attached all seriousness to the sector, he established the Ghana Film Industry Corporation, sponsored and encouraged musicians to develop their craft.

Moreover, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah during his presidency most of the time traveled Ghanaian musicians on foreign trips with the mindset of exposing them to the international market for business.

Kwame Nkrumah was very instrumental in making the popular HighLife genre our identity as countries like Jamaica, America, Germany and others are known for.

According to Chief Kofi Sammy, who was very vibrant and influential during that era, one unique thing about Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was his involvement of the creative personalities in his governance.

Chief Kofi Sammy revealed that in the 60s, the president called him and other musicians to create songs to propagate his ideologies, promote unity and development in the country .
