A member of the NDC Communications Team, Lawyer Emmanuel Kojo Mensah, has thrown his support behind the nomination of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice, praising his performance in the acting role and defending the legitimacy of his appointment.
Speaking on Atinka TV’s Morning Agenda, hosted by Ama Gyenfa Ofosu Darkwah, Lawyer Mensah stated that Justice Baffoe-Bonnie had “played the acting role very well” and was the most suitable candidate for the position.
“It is the responsibility of the President to ensure there is no vacuum in such a critical role,” he said, adding that the nomination was timely and constitutionally appropriate.
He emphasized that the nominee was not only the most senior judge on the bench but had also proven himself during his time as Acting Chief Justice.
“Since he has been acting, he has played the role very well. So far, we’ve not heard of any dangerous or biased ruling,” he noted.
Lawyer Mensah also dismissed suggestions that Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s elevation was premeditated or politically motivated.
According to him, the judge’s long and distinguished service on the bench speaks for itself. “He deserves it. He has worked very hard for it. I commend the President for being fair to him.”
Lawer Mensah concluded by indicating that further discussions on Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s tenure and legacy would continue after his vetting and official swearing-in, but reiterated that the judiciary must be led by individuals with integrity and experience.
Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie’s nomination is expected to go before Parliament for approval in the coming days.
