Mahama not wrong to decline debate with Bawumia-Nana Obiri Boahen

Former Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Nana Obiri Boahen, has asserted that Former President John Mahama won’t be utterly wrong if he decides not to debate Dr. Bawumia in the build up to the December 7 polls.

In an interview with Nana Yaw Fianko on Atinka FM, the private legal practitioner argued that the much-anticipated debate will yield no meaningful results for any of the presidential candidates. Mr. Obiri Boahen strongly believes that the candidates should rather focus on selling their policies to the people to court voters rather than engaging in a needless argument.

“If the IEA organizes the debate, I will encourage Dr. Bawumia to participate in it. After all, he has that right. Notwithstanding that, John Mahama also has the right to decline”, he stated.

The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) recently unveiled its plans to organize Presidential and Vice-Presidential debates in the lead-up to Ghana’s General Elections. The debates aimed to foster issue-based elections by providing a platform for candidates to discuss their solutions to Ghana’s economic problems.
