President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama has directed the Ghana Police Service to arrest reckless riders and drivers during the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, stressing that no lives should be lost due to irresponsible road behavior.

Addressing the National Muslim Prayers at the Black Star Square in Accra, he expressed concern over the dangerous motorbike stunts and reckless driving that have often marred Eid celebrations in the past.

“Let me reiterate: no one must die in the celebration of Eid. This is a time of joy and peace, yet every year, we witness tragic accidents caused by reckless riders and drivers. This must stop,”- he declared.

The President warned that law enforcement officers have been instructed to clamp down on dangerous road users immediately.

“I have asked the police to look out for those who drive and ride recklessly. If you engage in such behavior, you will be arrested,” – he cautioned.

In recent years, numerous fatalities and injuries have been recorded during Eid celebrations due to reckless motorbike stunts and over speeding, particularly among the youth.

The police have often struggled to control the situation, but with the President’s direct orders, a stricter enforcement approach is expected this year.

President Mahama urged young people to celebrate responsibly and prioritize safety over showmanship. He also called on religious and community leaders to sensitize the youth on the dangers of reckless riding and encourage them to observe the festivities with discipline.

As Ghana marks Eid-ul-Fitr, the nation now looks to see how effectively law enforcement will respond to the President’s directive and ensure an accident-free celebration.
