Mahama’s “cooking figures” claim shows he knows nothing about the economy– Buaben Asamoah

Yaw Buaben Asamoa on Knowledge

The Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa, says the former President’s assertion that Ken Ofori-Atta is “cooking” figures to cover effects of covid-19 pandemic shows that he has no knowledge of the economy.

Mahama in an interview said the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the lies of the government, blaming Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta for “cooking” figures to make the country’s economy look good regardless of the hardships Ghanaians are grappling with.

He added that the Finance minister will be presenting the budget and that Ghana will realise the economy is in tatters.

“They said the economy was resilient and the Vice-President said if there was any external shock, for six months, Ghana will not need any external intervention. But within two weeks of COVID, we went to the IMF for money. What happened to that resilient economy. The economy had no buffers and, so, within two weeks of a COVID situation, [there was a] lockdown; we were begging the IMF for money…, so, it shows there’s a certain culture of lying about things and all that to deceive Ghanaians and we can see that it has all unraveled and the truth is here for all to see,” Mahama said.

Speaking in an interview with host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, The Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Boabeng Asamoa, stated that the whole world is aware of the effects of the pandemic on economies.

He noted that it would be unfair for anyone to suggest that the governemnt is cooking up figures.

“ Mahama has no knowledge of the economy. Like I said earlier Mahama wants to be voted into power in 2024 and so he will say all manner of things to make the government in power look bad in the eyes of voters. The bottom line is that he should tell us what he did and what he will do. That is what matters,” he added.
