Reports reaching Atinkaonline.com is that the Makola Shopping Mall has again been confronted with a fire outbreak.

This is almost a month when the Accra Central Business District experienced a serious fire outbreak.

According to an eyewitness, the fire started on Sunday, August 15th 2021 around 7.25 a.m but was brought under control by 11.18 a.m.

The inferno totally burnt few metallic containers and one big shop at the external part of the Mall, adjacent the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Although the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) went to the scene to control the fire in time, properties worth over millions of cedis were lost.

Most of the affected containers were being used to sell clothes, shoes, bags and cosmetics.

Meanwhile, the Fire Service is yet to disclose the cause of the fire outbreak.

It has also been reported that no causalities were recorded.

Background

On Monday, July 5, 2021, parts of the Accra Central Market, specifically Georgina stores in Makola was razed with fire.

About 100 shops were burnt, while a lot of properties worth millions of cedis were lost.

According to some shop owners and eyewitness, although opposite the Ghana National Fire Service, the Service did not attend to the calls early when the fire initially started.

Answering to the Public, the Fire Service said they did not have water in the tenders and had to get water at nearby areas in order to fight the fire.

According to reports, about 9 fire tenders were used to quench the fire, due to its magnitude.

The PRO of Fire Service, Ellis Robinson Okoe also complained that the hydrants in the city had been blocked by the Ghana Water Company Ltd since 1992.
