President Addo-Addo has been lauded for his decision to build a broad national consensus on the appointment of metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs) to run affairs of the 275 administrative assemblies within the country.
In the wake of this, the youth, religious leaders, elders, market folks, chiefs, queen-mothers, supporters and members of the NPP in the electoral areas of Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro and Domeabra-Obom constituencies in the Ga South municipality of the Greater Accra Region have joined the pleasing team to declare their total support for President Akufo-Addo to reach a consensus on the appointment of MMDCEs.
“We the chiefs, queens and other traditional office holders, towns and villages within the Ga South municipality would like to state categorically that the decision of our listening President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to reach a broad national consensus on the appointment of MMDCEs is in the right direction which implementation would enhance the effective operations of metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in the country,” the chiefs and queen-mothers in Ga South municipality stated.

Eight months into his second term, the President is yet to announce his MMDCEs, a development which has raised concerns about the effective operations of the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs).
But speaking with Tamale-based Justice FM last Saturday during a working visit to the Northern Region, the President finally broke his silence over the delay in the appointment of MMDCEs, stating “My party betrayal is delaying appointments.”
He underscored that he was currently going through reports presented to him but the various committees set up for the selection process and that with time, the MMDCEs’ list will be ready.
Meanwhile, recognised chiefs and traditional office holders of Ga South municipality have declared their support for President Akufo-Addo following his decision to resort to a broad consensus over the appointment of MMDCEs.
These are Nii Commey Dadaiku l, Koffe Chief, Naa Commley Ajaduma Afia I, Koffe Queen-mother, Chief of Kokrobite Nii Ofei Il, Queen-mother of Oshyie, Naa Yeboawaah II, Chief of Aplaku, Nii Kwei I, Nii Buernortey Baako l, Langma Mantse, Mukaila Agbonarh – Tuba Mantse, Nii Kofi Lantei II, Domeabra Kingmaker (Dzaase), Nii Kpakpoe Amaate II, Obom Mantse, Nii Akwaanor IV – Ashalaja Mantse, Nii Adama Okunim I – Domifaase Mantse, Nii Dade – Kordua Mantse, Nii Odametey I – Busuafise Mantse, Nii Odarkwei I – Ofosolanteman Mantse, Nii Amartefio I – Akuteaku-Gonnoman Mantse and Nii Okujiaman I – Ashifa Mantse.
While commending President Akufo-Addo for his recognition of chiefs and other traditional office holders in the appointment of MMDCEs, the aforementioned chiefs and traditional office holders appealed to the President to appoint the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman of Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro, Mr Paul Ibrahim Baako, as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ga South.
“We the traditional rulers and subjects of Ga-South Municipality wish to recommend Paul Ibrahim Baako to the President to be appointed as the new Municipal Chief Executive of the area, because Mr Baako is an indigenous developmental-oriented person, with tested skills in grass-roots mobilisation which has sharpened his appreciation for local governance,” they appealed to President Akufo-Addo.
They pointed out that Mr Baako’s excellent human relations with the chiefs and people in Ga South municipality and his visible presence has positioned him as a reliable and result-oriented leader necessitating “our firm support for his nomination as the next MCE for Ga South municipality.”
“However, we know confidently that the office of the MCE is where local government is practised, that is administration of local affairs of towns, villages among others, we recommend Paul Ibrahim Baako who is the current Chairman for Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro Constituency as the Municipal Chief Executive because he is a multifaceted politician who is loved and cherished by all.
“His generosity and calm nature are admired not only by the grassroots and the youth of the areas but by the traditional authorities as well,” they stated.
They indicated that Mr Baako has rich experience in people management due to his long service to the people of Ga South and his political party.
Considering his royal blood and respect for the culture and tradition of his kingsmen, they stressed that “we are of a firm conviction that his exceptional people management skills coupled with his rich political and administrative experience, will make him a great MCE who will champion the good course of the government.
“We the chiefs of Ga South are appealing to the President to consider Mr Baako as the next MCE for the municipality to drive change,” they stressed.
According to them, their call on the President and the appointment authorities to appoint Mr Baako as a new Ga South MCE stem from the fact that Mr Baako, who doubles as the former Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro Constituency Second Vice Chairman of the NPP, has distinguished himself as a grassroots person who has contributed immensely to the growth and development of the NPP over the years.
Some residents made up of market folks, students, fishermen, youth, clergies, queen-mothers including members and supporters of the NPP in two constituencies in a random interview with DAILY Analyst believed that Mr Baako’s appointment will help the NPP regain its lost glory in the two constituencies.
“He is very submissive, good listener, team builder, peace maker, humble, people-centered, hardworking, and understands party works. So we the youth of Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro and Domeabra-Obom constituencies plead with the President to give the MCE’s position to Mr Baako,” they said.
