American-Ghanaian Musician, Jasmine.T has expressed her view that music should inspire, uplift, and guide people through life’s challenges and not just entertain people.
Speaking on Atinka TV’s Entertainment Lounge with Odefour DiAsa Papa, she emphasized the power of music to shape society, particularly for the youth.
“There’s a lot going on in the world right now, and young people need all the support they can get,” she said.
She continued that,“Music should be more than just beats and lyrics, it should motivate, educate, and help people navigate life.”
Jasmine.T, who blends R&B with Afrobeats, is passionate about using her platform to encourage young people.
“A lot of kids feel lost, like they don’t have guidance or support. As artists, we have a role to play. We should be telling them, ‘Hey, I got you. Listen to me—I’ll guide you,” she stated.
One of her standout songs, Pressure, is built on this philosophy, “That song is based on my own experiences and struggles. I want people to know that no matter what they’re going through, they can get through it. As long as you have God, you’re not alone.”
Having grown up in Bronx, New York, Jasmine.T has seen how music can shape identities.
While R&B remains her core sound, she is embracing Afrobeats because of its cultural depth and global reach.
“Afrobeats is powerful, it is not just music, it’s an experience. It carries messages of resilience, joy, and unity, and that’s what I want my music to do as well,” she said.
Jasmine.T hopes to collaborate with Ghanaian artists including Black Sherif, King Promise, and Stonebwoy, whom she admires for their ability to connect with the youth through music.
“Black Sherif, for example, has strong vocals and speaks directly to the struggles young people face. That’s the kind of impact I want my music to have,” she asserted.
Despite having a growing international fan base, Jasmine.T is not focused on fame alone.
“Music is a tool. If all you are doing is entertaining people, you’re missing an opportunity to make a difference. People are going through real struggles, and they need something that speaks to them, something that reminds them to keep going,” she added.
As she continues her journey in Ghana, Jasmine.T is not just looking to make music, she is on a mission to create songs that matter.
“No pressure, no stress, just music with purpose,” she said with a smile.
