NDC race: Alabi promises one constituency, one bank account

Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies and Flagbearer hopeful for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Joshua Nii Alabi, has expressed strongly his commitment to create bank accounts at all constituencies for the smooth running of the party.

He noted that he intends to build structures to aid the operations of the constituents; thus, even though they are known in ideology and practice to be a political party for the masses, they are saddled with inadequate infrastructural development.

These intended actions are part of his agenda of reorganization to make the NDC formidable going into the 2020 elections.

In an interview on “Simpieso” with Atinka FM’s Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Alabi outlined his vision in leading the party. He mentioned that monies would be solicited from well-wishers and financiers in a way that would not breed corruption.

The amount would be used as fixed deposit and the accrued profit is to run the day-to-day affairs of the constituencies.

According to him, the initiative is necessary because most of the Constituency Executives run party errands and operations from their own resources – therefore limiting their activities.

“Even when a constituency organizer goes for money from constituency chairman, the latter asks the wife to tell the former he is not home, he added.”

That notwithstanding, proceeds from the accounts would be used to take social needs of persons who have served in different roles for the party.

And that the business community could contribute this account base on some policies that would enhance their businesses.

Prof Alabi insisted that the initiative is sustainable because his leadership would roll out key policies to generate revenue from the national to the constituency level.

Quizzed on his ability to raise funds in supporting the national campaign should he be elected as flagbearer, he called it a bluff saying it is “joke”

He subsequently answered that having been able to pay the GHC 320,000 picking and filing of nominations, it shows clearly he is capable in raising funds.
