The National Identification Authority (NIA) has commenced nationwide registration of Ghanaian children between the ages of 6 and 14 at all its premium centres. This initiative forms part of efforts to provide every Ghanaian with a national identity from an early age.
Registration Process and Fees
According to the NIA, the registration fee for first-time applicants at premium centres remains GHS 310. This fee structure is consistent with the charges for premium services and also applies to individuals aged 15 years and above.
To register a child, parents or guardians must present one of the following:
- A valid Ghanaian passport of the child,
- The original birth certificate of the child, or
- Be a Ghana Card holder who can vouch for the child.
These requirements are in line with the standard procedures already in place for older applicants.
Online Booking System Expanded
In a related development, the NIA has announced the extension of its online registration and booking system to all 11 premium centres across the country. The updated system, which takes effect on Monday, 15th September 2025, will allow applicants to conveniently schedule appointments online, helping to streamline the registration process.
Card Issuance for Registered Children
The Authority also assured the public that Ghana Cards for children aged 6 to 14 who have already completed their registration will be issued soon. Updates on the issuance schedule will be communicated in due course.
Further announcements on expanding access to registration centres across the country are expected in the coming weeks, as the NIA continues to roll out initiatives aimed at ensuring nationwide coverage.
