No BVD stolen, only 5 laptops stolen from BVR Kits – EC clarifies

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has denied allegations by the Minority in Parliament that seven biometric verification devices (BVDs) have been stolen.

The EC denied the allegations at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday

 The Minority in parliament alleged that seven biometric devices that were intended for voter verification by the Electoral Commission had gone missing.

At a press briefing in Parliament on Tuesday, March 19, Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson urged the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Ghana Police Service to swiftly investigate the whereabouts of the missing devices.

He also called for prompt action from the police regarding the disappearance of the seven biometric devices, expressing concerns about potential implications for the upcoming December polls.

However, addressing the press,  Deputy Chairman of the EC in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, denied that Seven biometric devices had been stolen.

Rather, he said five laptops, which are part of its BVR kits were rather missing.

He said the Ghana Police Service has been informed and they are investigating the matter to arrest and prosecute culprits.
