Director-General of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service, ACP David Eklu has refuted allegations that most notorious criminals in the country become friends of the Service after being arrested repeatedly.
There is a perception that the Police Service fail to bring to book most notorious criminals in the country especially those in the capital towns because of the relationship the said criminals build with some officers after repeated arrests.
In an interview with Kaakyire Ofori Ayim on Atinka AM Drive, ACP David Eklu denied the allegation, adding that it is a mere perception and not the reality.
According to him, the fact that a person has a criminal record does not make him an enemy to the police service.
He said the Police Service works with different kinds of people in its quest to seek information.
“Every criminal is a potential ally, the work of the police is so complex so sometimes you need to get close to ex-convicts and people with criminal records in other to trap notorious criminals. However, we do that in a professional way in order not to compromise our integrity”, he added.
ACP David Eklu also made mention of an impending Television Programme by the Ghana Police Service which seeks to sensitize the general public on how to help the police fight and prevent crime.
