NPP Must Elect a Problem Solver – Kufuor Urges Party

Former President

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prioritize competence and national unity over religious and tribal considerations as the party prepares to select its flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

Addressing attendees at the launch of the Patriotic Institute — the party’s newly established think tank — on Wednesday, 25 June, Mr. Kufuor emphasized the importance of electing a leader who is capable of offering practical solutions to the country’s challenges.

His remarks come amid rising internal tensions and personal attacks targeting some potential aspirants, following the party’s announcement that the flagbearer election will take place on 31 January 2026.

The early jockeying for leadership has sparked concerns over divisive rhetoric and factionalism within the party.

Mr. Kufuor’s message served as a timely reminder for party members to focus on substance, unity, and the broader national interest.

Also speaking at the event, former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, expressed concern about growing injustice within the party. He called for fairness and integrity in the party’s internal processes.
