The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has officially met with the Greater Accra Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service this afternoon as part of preparations for a planned demonstration scheduled for September 23, 2025.
The upcoming protest is being organized to draw attention to what the NPP youth leadership describes as increasing instances of police harassment and restrictions on free speech. According to Mr. Mustapha, the demonstration is aimed at defending the constitutional rights of citizens and ensuring that young people can freely express themselves without intimidation.
During the meeting, discussions centered on the modalities of the demonstration, routes to be used, and measures to ensure public safety. Mr. Mustapha expressed the NPP youth wing’s commitment to a peaceful protest, emphasizing that the demonstration will remain lawful and orderly.
He further noted that the police have a duty to protect demonstrators while also maintaining law and order. “Our resolve is firm. We will not sit quietly while harassment and attempts to gag free expression continue. But we are equally determined to make this protest peaceful and impactful,” he stated after the engagement.
The Greater Accra Regional Command, for its part, assured the organizers of their readiness to provide security support and stressed the importance of cooperation to prevent any potential disturbances.
The September 23 demonstration is expected to draw a large turnout of party youth and civil society allies, marking what organizers describe as a critical moment in the fight for democratic freedoms in Ghana.
