A joyous outdooring ceremony in Gbawe Barley, located in the Gbawe East Electoral Area, turned tragic, when gunshots rang out, leaving one person dead and another critically injured.
Local opinion leader Nii Oshipi confirmed that he received a distress call from the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Hospital regarding the shooting. According to hospital officials, one male victim was pronounced dead on arrival from a gunshot wound to the head.
A woman, who sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen, was later transferred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for specialized care.
Speaking to Atinka News, the Assembly Member for Gbawe East, Hon. Benjamin Lartey, confirmed that the incident was reported to the Gbawe Police Station.
He assured residents that security in the area would be intensified and pledged full cooperation with law enforcement to apprehend those responsible.
As of press time, the identities of both the victims and the suspect remain unknown. The motive behind the shooting also remains unclear.
