0

A section of the public, especially fans of Ghanaian male rapper, Medikal and his ex-girlfriend, Fella Makafui, continue to seek reasons behind their break-up after it was rumoured last week that the relationship had fallen on rocks.
While the news circulated on social media, fans of the two were speculating if it was just a publicity stance or it was indeed true the two had split, but after sometime, Medikal’s tweet, apologising to Fella gave the public a clue that the relationship had lost its nutrients.

The tweet was not just enough, Medikal also went to Fella’s shop with his friends to make amends, but the Actress and entrepreneur sacked the AMG stars from her shop, indicating how furious she is with Medikal.
Also, Dancehall Artiste, Shatta Wale, together with his friends visited the Yolo star to advise her and apologise on behalf of medikal, but his efforts seemed to be fruitless.
Currently, there is rumour that Medikal was having a secret intimate relationship with sister of Fella Makafui, causing their break-up after Fella Makafui found out.

Meanwhile, reacting to the rumour, Fella Makafui took to social media to warn Ghanaians to keep her sister off her relationship matters.

Ada West Assembly neglects ripped-off school block; students learn in the open

0

Students of the Anyamam Community D/A Junior High School have resorted to studying in the open after their school block was ripped-off by windstorm years ago.
The block still lie unroofed, a development which is hindering teaching and learning for the past few years since the natural disaster stroke.
Established in 1961 as a middle school, the Anyamam Community D/A Junior High School  served Goi, Akplabanya, Lolonya and other communities that did not have middle school at the time until they got one in the 70s and 80s.
It is currently the only JHS which serves both public and private basic schools in the community, hence pressure on the school.
The situation has turned devastating after the roof of the four-unit school block with teachers staff common room was ripped-off by a windstorm over three years ago.
The Ada West Assembly’s attention was drawn to the situation to ensure that the roof was fixed to restore conducive teaching and learning but nothing has since been done.
PTA, realising the consequences of the continues stay of the roofless school block contributed to do the mortar works to the roof level and again solicited support from the Assembly to roof it but the Assembly remains unconcerned.
The situation presently is dire that, students conduct classes under their bush canteen shed, portions of the ripped-off block with palm and Coconut branches over to give them shades and others under trees.
Both pupils and teachers have to carry their learning materials to safety in the only two available classrooms at a drizzle.
Apart from students learning under such 17th century condition when Atinka News visited the school, teachers were found preparing lesson notes and marking assignments under trees as their staff common room.
Some parents who spoke to Atinka News on conditions of anonymity said the District Chief Executive, Adzoteye Laweh Akrofi has refused to tell them anything tangible during their several meetings with him.
The unpleasant development, both teachers and parents say has negatively affected 2018 and 2019 BECE results.

Sewerage Systems Ghana Limited is a subsidiary of waste management giants Zoomlion Ghana Limited      and is into the construction of liquid waste facilities and treatment of faecal matter in Ghana.
Through its green revolution programme, it  now successfully generates about 500 kilowatts of green power which may be useful to augment  energy generation in Ghana.

Addressing management and staff of his over forty subsidiary companies, the elated Entrepreneur expressed gratitude to God who he described as his Chief Executive Officer (CEO), advisory  board, management and staff of his companies.
He said it was in 2006 that God revealed the  vision to him to provide solutions to existing waste problems in Ghana. “It was then that we started innovating various technologies and mechanisms which is now providing an integrated approach to  waste management and has replaced the hitherto haphazard solid  waste disposal and liquid waste that was dislodged directly into the sea leading to Ghana  being scored 7th dirtiest country in the world.
Dr. Agyepong recounted  how the company Zoomlion was formed and got the support of former President John Agyekum Kuffour through the tricycle concept which has evolved to become the leading waste management company in West Africa.
The waste management entrepreneur said his focus now is to build modern waste management technologies and infrastructure across Ghana to help achieve the President’s vision of making Accra and Ghana the cleanest in Africa.
He expressed gratitude to all former presidents of the fourth republic and H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who have all shown key interests in the waste management agenda of the country.
“In responding to Nana Addo’s vision to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa, we researched and developed the IRECOP concept which processes over 400 tonnes of waste a day  currently operating in Accra and being replicated in the regions.
He commended the Chairman
Of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric K. Nyamekye and members for the effective collaboration in ensuring a clean environment through a project dubbed “environmental care campaign”last year.
He also thanked the National  Chief Imam, Dr. Sheik Nuhu Sarabutu and all other Imams for their prayers for the Jospong brand.

He said one must set goals strategically and believe in them and God will make them come to fruition.
He urged leaders never to run away from problems but rather run towards them and find solutions for their change.
A Commissioner of Police (COP), Nathan  Kofi Boakye advised leaders to have succession plans and ensure that they identify leaders among their staff and groom them to take over.
He asked leaders to avoid protester and prisoner types of staff because they do not bring improvement to their organizations.

Rice millers cry for financial support

0
Rice millers in the country were unable to meet the demand for milled local rice during the Christmas and New Year festivities due to financial constraints.

According to them, they had the capacity to mill but they lacked the funds to buy adequate quantities of the paddy rice for milling.
Some of the rice millers the Daily Graphic interviewed noted that until recently, people did not believe in the local rice and for that matter, those in the value chain did not get any financial support.
Financial resources
The Chief Executive Officer of Digo Farms at New Longoro in the Bono East Region, Mr Yaw Adu Poku, explained that the rush for the local rice came at a short notice and local millers could not measure up because “we did not have the financial muscles to meet the demand”.
“Some of us worked 24/7 during the period and as we milled, people who placed orders were standing by to take delivery.
“To tell you the truth, the ministry has made enemies for us because friends and families were made to understand that they would get their local rice at their doorstep during the festivities and when we were not able to meet the demands, people got angry with us that we denied them of local rice,” he said.
Mr Poku said the demand was overwhelming, but stressed that it was not that the rice millers were not up to the task, but that the millers were not adequately prepared for the season.
He said the marketers that the government was trying to bring on board were a bit apprehensive as to the outcome of the local rice in the mainstream.“The little that we had was what we brought to the market and everything that we milled was picked up, not even a grain was left,” Mr Poku stated.
He expressed the hope that the ministry would intervene this year to enable the millers to bridge the gap.
Low production
Mr Poku gave an assurance that the local millers had the capacity to mill all the paddy rice in the country, citing that his company, for example, had the capacity to mill 156 tonnes a day.
“That means we can process an excess of 100 tonnes a day, bringing onto the market a minimum of 60 to 70 tonnes a day, which translates into about two articulated trucks a day,” he said.
The factory is currently operating at about 18 per cent capacity, he said.
Mr Poku also indicated that the producer of the local Mr Rabbit Long Grain Rice had the capacity to produce 50 tonnes a day but was currently producing at half capacity.
The Executive Chairman of Strongmen Foods and Farms Ltd at Akuse in the Greater Accra Region, Mr Michael Darko, corroborated with Mr Poku, saying the financial institutions lacked confidence in local rice millers, but gave an assurance that the days when local produce was considered inferior were long gone.
Campaign
The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has embarked on a campaign to get Ghanaians to patronise local rice instead of the imported ones.
Some media houses, mainly Citi FM, have also launched a campaign to support the growing and consumption of local rice.
In December last year, the Minister of Agriculture, Dr Owusu Akoto Afriyie, set up a Rice Technical Team made up of rice importers, processors, millers, farmers and representatives of the Ministry of Finance to discuss the way forward on how to reduce the importation of rice in favour of local rice.

0

National Youth Organizer for the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Alhassan Basiru Nabila, has revealed that the 200k filling fee was a bone of contention within the party.
The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has announced ¢200,000 as filling fee for candidates who wish to contest on the party’s ticket as Presidential Candidates.
Persons vying for the National Chairmanship position of the party will pick the form at the cost of ¢100,000.
A statement signed by the Deputy Communication Director for CPP, Benjamin Nsiah, noted that the party seeks to encourage more women and the youth to contest the vacant positions in the  party and so aspirants for the position of National Women Organizer and National Youth Organizer will file their form at a reduced cost of ¢20,000.
Candidates vying for the National Organizer and Vice Chairmen positions will file nominations at the cost of at GHS70,000.
Candidates will, however, pick nomination forms at a cost of GHS2000.
Interested persons have been advised by the party to pick up forms early so there can be adequate time to fill and file  nomination .
Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka FM’s AM Drive Tuesday, Alhassan Basiru Nabila, noted that the figure quoted for the flagbearer position was subjected to voting as other members of the party had opposing views.
He explained that as a democratic party the CPP did not want to impose any amount with regards to the filing fees hence the decision to vote. He added that the 200k was accepted unanimously.
“They were challenges with regards oh how much candidates were supposed to pay and so we could not have imposed. If you look at the figure it’s obvious it’s a bit outrageous even subjecting it to voting was tough. Myself I even voted against the figure but at the end those who were for it won because the Party need funds and so had to go with the majority decision.” he said.
Alhassan Basiru Nabila revealed that former flagbearer for the party, Ivor Greenstreet confided in him that the figure is on the high side and that he wished something is done about it to enable him consider whether or not to contest the position.
CPP has also approved March 8 as date for the party’s congress and it will be held in Kumasi.

Retract and correct erroneous impression about us-EC to Classfmonline, Ghanaweb

0

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has registered displeasure in a news story by Classfmonline and also published by Ghanaweb on Friday, 10th January 2020, perceiving the publication as an attempt to malign the reputation and integrity of the Commission.
According to the EC, the publication with caption, “The public can’t dictate to us, we’ll work our plan for a credible poll-EC”, seeks to create the impression that the commission does not seek other views or opinions when taking critical decisions.
Meanwhile, the EC stated that despite the guarantee of its independence as enshrined in article 46 of the 1992 constitution, it does have consultations with stakeholders which include political parties, civil society organisations, media, and others in its quest to bring democracy to the doorstep all Ghanaians.
“The commission will however not compromise its stance on matters that are not in the interest of the nation and in clear contravention of the principles of electoral justice to the detriment of our electoral process and democracy,” the EC stated.
The EC therefore called on the two portals to withdraw the story immediately and correct the erroneous impression created about the commission.
“On this note, we call on the publisher of this article to retract and correct this erroneous impression regarding the commission’s justification of a new voter management system and a voters’ register,” the EC added.
Below is a statement by the EC:

Bawumia launches NPA's digital product tracking command centre

0

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has launched a digital Command and Control Centre for Bulk Road Vehicle (BRV) and an Electronic Cargo Tracking System (ECTS) to be run by the National Petroleum Authority in collaboration with other key stakeholders in the petroleum downstream sector.
Speaking at the launch ceremony in Accra on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 Vice President Bawumia said the operationalization of the Centre, which would track the movement of all petroleum products in real time, would have several benefits, key among which is reduced revenue losses and greater efficiency in the control and distribution of petroleum products.
“As we all know, energy is critical to everything we do, from home to office and industry, and how countries manage their energy sector along the supply chain has become a very important issue around the globe. The Government therefore places high priority on the development of all sources of energy and their distribution to ensure availability of cheap, yet quality energy for the good people of Ghana,” he said.

Vice President Bawumia explained that an efficient and effective petroleum products distribution system is essential to the economic growth of the country, and it is for this reason that Government is committed to improving the movement of petroleum products within the country, whether it is by road, rail, water or pipeline.
He expressed worry about the network of illegal activities going on in the petroleum downstream industry mostly in the form of bunkering, smuggling of petroleum products and the dumping of products meant for export on the local market.
“It is estimated that these illegal activities cost the country over US$200 million per annum in the form of lost direct petroleum tax revenue, subsidies that do not get to the targeted constituencies, and abuse in transport claims for transportation of petroleum products among others.

“To put this in perspective, the revenue loss of about $200 million translates into nearly GHS1.1 billion annually, which is about 55 percent of the money needed every year to finance a full stream of Free SHS according to the 2020 Budget estimates.”
The launch of the 24/7 Command Centre had therefore come at the right time, he added, saying “This is yet another example of how we can leverage on technology to tackle some of the problems that continue to undermine our ability to build the Ghana we want.”

He charged the NPA to enhance and sustain the already initiated technological interventions such as the Petroleum Product Marking Scheme, the Bulk Road Vehicle Tracking and Volume Monitoring System, the Enterprise Relational Database Management System (ERDMS) and now the Electronic Sealing and Cargo Tracking System.
The Chief Executive Officer of the NPA, Alhassan Tampuli, announced plans by the Authority to deploy Automatic Tank Gauging and Stock Management and Monitoring Systems at retail outlets in the country to give the regulatory authorities such as the NPA and the Ghana Revenue Authority, real time view of petroleum product stocks and movements at all retail outlets and depots in the country.
Deputy Minister of Energy, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, assured of Government’s determination to address the capacity challenges facing the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company and the Volta Lake Transport Company in the distribution of petroleum products, indicating that the 98% of all petroleum products transported by road was on the high side.

GWCL, EPA and NADMO to supply temporary water to residents around river Tano

0

The District Director for Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Mr. James Andam, says the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Environmental Protection Agency and the GWCL are set to collaborate to supply a temporary source of water to residents closer to the Tano for use, while their main source of water is being treated.
According to him, the area where the chemicals diluted the water is different from where the Ghana Water Company Limited picks their source of water for treatment, hence the need for the residents remain calm.
“There’s no problem with the water we are treating for residents in the region and its environs. Where we pick our source of water for treatment is different from where the vehicle with the chemicals fell. We pick our water for treatment from downstream,” he explained.
Mr. James noted that, the Quality Assurance department of the GWCL has conducted test into the river and has assured the public of facilitating the necessary measures to make the Tano River safe domestic use.
Mr. James Andam made these assertions on Atinka FM’s Midday news on Tuesday 14th January, 2020.
Speaking further, Mr. Andam stated emphatically that, there has not been a recorded casualty as a result of drinking from the Tano water after the incident.
“We continue to inform residents in Techiman not to panic but have faith in us. Measures are far advanced to making the Tano River safe again for domestic use” Mr. James Andam pleaded.
