Anas to report Kwesi Nyantakyi to FIFA

0

The ace international investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has decided to report an alleged misconduct by the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi, to world football’s governing body, FIFA.

An investigative sting operation is said to have captured Nyantakyi on video entering into sponsorship deals with some investors who ended up being undercover agents for Anas

The Daily Graphic has gathered that Anas is on his way to the FIFA Headquarters in Switzerland to deliver the petition.

Nyantakyi’s conduct, the source noted, contravened FIFA’s ethics.

“This issue is beyond Ghana,” a source close to the investigations told the Daily Graphic.

“Just a little portion of the video features Ghana. It is an international operation and will be handled as such,” it said.

“This issue is beyond Ghana,” a source close to the investigations told the Daily Graphic.

“Just a little portion of the video features Ghana. It is an international operation and will be handled as such,” it said.

Meanwhile, FIFA is on record to have stated that it is monitoring the events in Ghana keenly as they unfold, but Mr Nyantakyi has denied any wrongdoing.

According to him, he deserved recognition for his impressive work towards the growth of Ghana’s football.

Build up

Anas has released an exciting and suspense-filled piece on his social media page eulogising men who have contributed to the growth of Ghana football.

“It is for these poor folks, the duped, long-suffering fans and the numerous sports journalists some of whom I have mentioned here — journalists who get to work at the crack of dawn and stay late to bring up-to-date news to the public — that I have undertaken this ‘Number 12’ assignment,” he noted.

“It is for the sake of more sanity and transparency that I have decided to scrape clean this tainted football system for a fresh start.

“The very foundation of Ghana football will collapse in a heap, to be rebuilt by the concerned sports journalists and the honest football people who will remain standing,” he further went on.

He, accordingly, urged Ghanaians to hold their breaths for what he termed the “explosive exposé in the coming days”.

Number 12

What Anas has up his sleeve now, titled: “Number 12: When Misconduct and Greed Become The Norm”, is scheduled to air on June 6, 2018.

It promises to expose greed and corruption in Ghana’s football.

Issues of bribery in the form of livestock and money to influence the showing of red cards, player selection and the award of penalties are said to be regular occurrences in Ghana football.

The video has been labelled in some circles as bigger than the judicial scandal.

Already, some administrators of football have dared Anas and his team to come on with their so-called exposé because they are men of integrity who have run Ghana football without blemish over the last few decades, although their names have not been cited as being part of the scandal

President reports

Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has ordered criminal investigations into the conduct of Mr Nyantakyi for using the President’s name to purportedly extort money from potential investors.

Nana Akufo-Addo, according to a Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor, had watched a video depicting Mr Nyantakyi urging investors to part with various sums of money to be disbursed to the President, his Vice and other top government officials.

Speaking to journalists at the Presidency in Accra on May 22, 2018, Mr Jinapor said the President had also directed that any other official cited, mentioned or connected to alleged corrupt deals in the video should be investigated.

The President, Mr Jinapor noted, had asked the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to look into the matter and bring culprits to book.

Visits

Mr Nyantakyi has so far reported himself twice to the police, in the company of his lawyer, Mr Thaddeus Sory.

He is set to report himself to the police again this week to assist in investigations.

141,332 chase NaBCo jobs

0

Out of the 141,332 applicants who commenced the application process for Nation Builders’ Corps (NaBCo), 109,271 have completed and successfully submitted their applications.

This means that 32,060 applicants who commenced the process are yet to complete and submit their applications to meet the deadline of Friday, June 1, 2018.
Co-ordinator for NaBCo, Dr Anyars Ibrahim explained that those yet to submit their application may be working on information requests such as personal statement comprising expectations, aspirations, and ambition, among others.

To keep faith with applicants, he said breakdown of regional and modular applications would only be made available on close of applications on Friday, June 1, 2018.
It has been explained that the central objective of the new programme, unlike the Youth Employment Programme, is to engage the raw talents of unemployed graduates and equip them with skills through a process of value addition and training.

The scheme will this year employ 100,000 graduates under seven modules; namely, Educate Ghana, Heal Ghana, Feed Ghana, Revenue Ghana, Digitize Ghana, Civic Ghana and Enterprise Ghana.

June 4 to 15 to select interview date

Dr Anyars explained that all applicants can select suitable interview slots – time and date – for their chosen module and district from June 4 to 15, 2018.
He said interviews would be conducted in all districts from July 18 to 25, 2018.

Interviews take place July 30 to August 3

According to him, orientation for the selected 100,000 would take place at the district level from July 30 to August 3, 2018.
Passing-out ceremony

The NaBCo Co-ordinator explained that a passing-out ceremony would be organised at regional locations on Saturday, August 4, 2018.

Placement of recruits

“From Monday, 6th August, 2018, Nation Builders’ Corps (NaBCo) trainees will commence placement on their modules.
“Each trainee will be given a three-year contract under a work and learning arrangement.
“For every four weeks of work, one week will be dedicated to skills development and training.
“This results in a cumulative 12-week worth of core training, in addition to the on-the-job training every year,” he said.

Monitoring and evaluation

Dr Anyars stated that monitoring and evaluation of trainees would be conducted against the standards set for training and the skills acquisition expected of trainees.

To this end, he said, a partnership has been initiated between NaBCo, Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET), and a university partner to evaluate trainees, leading to an exit certification upon completion at the end of the three years.

“It is important to note that the system has been designed to be fair to every applicant.

“Therefore, applicants must remain confident that they can make it through to placement without requiring any undue intervention on their behalf. There is no protocol list anywhere; do not be deceived into paying anyone for such favours as there is none.

“On preparation for the interviews, what I will say is that please take the process seriously. Prepare for the interviews by staying familiar with information on the website – www.nabco.gov.gh.

“This will deepen your knowledge and understanding of the scheme, as well as the module you applied for.
“Avoid being late and show up on your appointment date and time ready and confident,” Dr Anyars said.

Equal opportunity recruitment and fairness

Every step of the way, NaBCo has been fair to applicants.
Most arrangements have avoided personal influences: an online application followed by online appointments for interviews.
Natural processes of recruitment equally entail other evaluative arrangements such as interviews.

This has been decentralised in district basis. Such flexibility takes account of applicants' need for reassurance within a certain comfort zone, as well as costs associated with travel and lodging.

Regarding the panel to conduct the interviews, their only preoccupation is to make judgement on an applicant's suitability to be placed in their chosen module.

Membership of interview panel

In every district, a panel of five will consist of a representative of the district assembly, a member of the NaBCo Secretariat, an official from National Service Secretariat, a representative from a module implementation partner, and a representative from the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations.
In all cases, applicants will be validated and processed through the interview.

Successful applicants

If successful, an applicant will receive a text notification within three days of the interview.

The notification will advise on the next steps, including how to print the engagement letter from the web portal.

Orientation

Once successful applicants submit their letters to the district of placement, they will be processed to commence a five-day orientation.
In all districts, the dates for NaBCo Orientation are from July 30 to August 3, 2018.

This shall include a military component on resilience, endurance, positive attitude, discipline and responsibility.
Passing-out ceremony

Once orientation is over, the successful trainees will all converge at their respective regional capital for a passing-out ceremony.
From August 6, 2018, trainees are expected to commence their placement in their chosen module within the organisations and enterprises they have been placed.

Italy crisis: Call to impeach president after candidate vetoed

Italy is mired in fresh political turmoil, with the president facing impeachment calls after he vetoed a choice for finance minister.

In a rare move, President Sergio Mattarella said he could not appoint the Eurosceptic Paolo Savona, citing concerns by investors.

The decision ended a bid by Italy's two populist parties to form a coalition.

Mr Mattarella may now appoint a stop-gap prime minster with early elections looking increasingly likely.

He has summoned Carlo Cottarelli, a former executive director of the International Monetary Fund, who could form an interim administration.

Italy, the eurozone's fourth-biggest economy, has been without a government since elections in March because no political group can form a majority.

The Five Star Party had been trying to form a government with another populist party, the right-wing League.

The BBC's James Reynolds in Rome says a temporary prime minister is unlikely to last long and early elections may have to be called.

There is now a real argument between the president and the populists about Italy's position in the EU, he adds.

What caused the crisis?
A political novice, Giuseppe Conte, was proposed by the two populist parties as prime minister in an attempt to break Italy's 11-week political deadlock.

He went to meet Mr Mattarella to put forward choices for his cabinet but the president vetoed Mr Savona as finance minister, citing his fierce opposition to membership of the eurozone.

Justifying his move, he said "uncertainty about our position in the euro has alarmed Italian and foreign investors", and argued that Mr Savona's stance clashed with the two parties' own position on Europe.

"I asked for… an authoritative person from the parliamentary majority who is consistent with the government programme… who isn't seen as a supporter of a line that could probably, or even inevitably, provoke Italy's exit from the euro," Mr Mattarella said.

He added that Mr Conte had refused to support "any other solution" and then surrendered his mandate to be PM.

Prudent management of Africa’s resources will ensure development – Samira Bawumia

0

Ghana’s Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, has said Africa’s underdevelopment is largely attributable to lack of prudence in the management of the continent’s resources.

“We can only have a developed Africa if we manage our resources prudently and in the best interest of our people; “Mrs. Bawumia said on Thursday, May 24th, 2018, when she delivered a speech at the Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry at an event to mark the 55th Anniversary of African Union (AU) Day celebration in Rome.

She asserted that,  African countries need to translate opportunities offered by globalization into inclusive growth, increased poverty reduction and sustainable development. However, we need to take account of the fact that, integration into global markets have some risks; as countries may become more susceptible to global trends, including corrupt practices by multinational corporations and other vested external interests.

The theme of the 55th Anniversary of the AU: “Winning the Fight Against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Development”, according to Mrs Bawumia “goes to the crux of our national priorities.

Citing the UN Economic Commission for Africa’s argument to buttress her call for total abhorrence for corruption at all levels, the Second Lady said corruption undermines accountability and transparency in the management of public affairs as well as socio-economic development on the continent.

On this note, she declared Ghana’s commitment to tackling the menace head-on, enumerating measures instituted by the Akufo-Addo government, including the setting up of the Special Prosecutor’s Office to lead the fight.

“Ghana is committed to tackling corruption, the Government has set up the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACAP), which is expected to contextualize and mobilize effort and resources in a bid to help prevent and fight corruption through the promotion of high ethics and integrity; as well as strict enforcement of applicable laws.

“The setting-up of the Office of the Special Prosecutor also speaks to the Government’s commitment to root out corruption. The Office as a specialized agency is mandated to investigate specific cases of corruption involving public officers, politically-exposed persons as well as individuals in the private sector implicated in corrupt practices and prosecute these offenses on the authority of the Attorney-General,” Mrs. Bawumia stated

Firefighters rescue man, 20, stuck for hours in child's swing

0

A man had to be rescued by police and the fire service after getting stuck in a child's swing in a play park.

The 20-year-old had been firmly wedged in the child-sized seat for three hours before police were called to Landseer Park in Ipswich at 07:50 BST.

When a "shove and pull" method of swing-release failed, the fire service arrived with a trusty screwdriver.

The swing was taken apart and the "grateful but embarrassed" grown-up was freed unharmed.

A Suffolk police community support officer quickly realised the man – who complained he had been in there for three hours – was definitely stuck.
There was no shifting him as the girth of his rear was clearly too wide for the child-sized swing.

After taking the swing to pieces and releasing the man, crews from Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service put it back together so it could be safely used by someone of the right size.

Rawlings: I will reject heaven if ‘rogue’ Mahama, ‘evil’ Kufuor make it there too

Former President Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings has said if going to Heaven means sharing the place with former President John Mahama and John Kufuor, then he is better off and happy going to hell.

The former President launched these unprovoked verbal attacks on the two Former Presidents who ruled the country after him when he received a delegation from the Volta Region.

According to the Former military ruler, former President Kufuor is ‘evil’ while former President Mahama, a ‘rogue’; and they both destroyed the country, adding that he will gladly join Satan in hell should they (Mahama and Kufuor) make heaven.

Mr Rawlings made these statements when the chiefs and people of Mepe in the North Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region paid a courtesy call on him to officially invite him to the final funeral rites of Mamaga Awusi Sreku II, queen of the Mepe Traditional Area.

“I know with my integrity when I die, I will go to heaven but when I see these corrupt leaders, I will ask permission from God and flog them.”

“If they don’t leave heaven for me, I will go and leave the heavens and join Satan in hell because I cannot stay in the same place with them,” Mr Rawlings stated.

He said former President Kufuor came to sell some Ghanaian companies to foreigners and awarded himself with the Grand Order of The Star and Eagles of Ghana.

Mr Rawlings said former President Kufuor, during his time, also tried to sideline Ewes in the military, adding that it came to a time when the service was looking for senior officers and was enlisting 40 in every region.

He described former President Mahama as a rogue who superintended over corruption.

Mr Rawlings lamented that during former President Mahama’s era, he personally negotiated for a project to be established at Vorlor in the North Tongu area “but before I released, some party executives had shared the land among themselves.”

Volta Region neglect

He lamented the neglect of Volta Region by the NDC despite the loyalty the region has shown the party.

He said the people lacked basic things and continuously live in chronic poverty.

He fingered Mr Mahama and some NDC Executives of looting away a land he had procured for a project in the region.

Bale stunner as Real crowned again

0

Gareth Bale came off the bench and scored a spectacular bicycle kick on the biggest stage as Real Madrid beat Liverpool 3-1 to win their third successive Champions League title.

Jurgen Klopp's side, who lost Mohamed Salah in the first half with a suspected dislocated shoulder and then saw a Loris Karius gaffe gift Karim Benzema the opener (51) had swiftly rallied in Kiev through Sadio Mane (55).

But after agony and ignominy, Bale delivered a moment befitting of the showpiece, his 64th-minute overhead kick sealing a 13th European Cup for the Spanish giants and their fourth in five seasons.
Karius suffered further embarrassment when he let Bale's late strike (83) from range slip through his gloves but though they competed gamely, crucial momentum was lost with Salah's untimely exit and Klopp's wait for a European trophy goes on.
