The Parliamentary Select Committee on Health has paid a working visit to the Entrance University of Health Sciences and Entrance Pharmaceuticals Limited, both subsidiaries of the Tobinco Group of Companies, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration with key stakeholders in Ghana’s pharmaceutical sector.

The visit, led by the Committee Chairman and Member of Parliament for Nabdam, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane, aimed to explore areas of partnership and assess the facilities’ contributions to healthcare delivery and education in the country.

During the visit, the Committee toured the ultra-modern facilities at the Entrance University of Health Sciences, including its dental, nursing, and medical laboratories. The members expressed admiration for the infrastructure and the university’s commitment to training health professionals.

The delegation later inspected the production units at Entrance Pharmaceuticals Limited, where various medicines are manufactured for both local use and export to several African countries.

Addressing the Committee, the Executive Chairman of the Tobinco Group of Companies, Elder Samuel Nana Amo Tobbin I, who doubles as the President of  the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Ghana, commended the Parliamentary Health Committee for its continuous support over the years.

He appealed to government to assist in recovering huge sums of money owed to the company by some Sub-Saharan African countries. He noted that payment of these debts would significantly boost the company’s expansion and enhance its contribution to the local pharmaceutical industry.

Elder Tobbin also called for the development of human capital and improved infrastructure to further strengthen Ghana’s pharmaceutical sector.

In response, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to supporting local pharmaceutical companies such as Tobinco, emphasizing their vital role in advancing healthcare delivery in Ghana.

The Deputy Ranking Member of the Health Committee and MP for Obuasi East, Dr. Patrick Boakye-Yiadom, also commended Elder Dr. Tobbin and his team for their dedication and substantial contribution to the country’s pharmaceutical industry.

The Committee welcomed Tobinco’s plans to establish a new infusion plant and operate a 24-hour production system in line with government’s industrial policy. Dr. Nawaane assured the company of Parliament’s continued support to facilitate its growth and ensure long-term sustainability.
