The Coalition of Volta Youth and Chiefs of the Southern part of the Volta Region on Wednesday, embarked on a demonstration against the creation of the Volta Region.
The protesters earmarked for a peaceful walk from the Vume Roman Catholic School Park through the principal Streets of Vume, Tefle, Sogakope to the Sogakope District Assembly. The protestors appeared in ‘warrior’ mien.
The division of the region, according to the chairman of the group, will rather create tension in the area, citing the confusion in Upper East and Upper West as perfect examples.
The Coalition of Volta Youth is a pressure group in the Volta region with the majority of its members in Southern Part of the region with the sole purpose of fighting for the development of the region.
One key goal of the current Government to the People of the Northern Volta is to create a new region called the Oti region out of the Volta region.
However, the Volta youth believe the move will undermine the development of the region and called on the government to rescind its decision and unite the people instead.
