Photos: Heavy security as Opuni pleads not guilty  

 

Day one of the trial of former Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD, Dr. Stephen Opuni, was characterized by heavy security presence.

Scores of security officers with full riot gear were stationed at the court premises to maintain law and order after busloads of NDC supporters and big wigs stormed the building.

Party bigwigs who stormed the court on Monday include, Former Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Inusah Fuseini,  former Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, former Deputy Transport Minister, Joyce Bawa-Mogtari, Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah and included former Attorney General, Marietta Brew Oppong; former Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Sherry Aryitey.

 Dr. Steve Opuni and his business partner, Seidu Adongo, CEO of AgriCult Ghana Company are facing 27 counts of causing financial loss of GHS217million to the state, through separate fertilizer supply contracts between 2014 and 2016.

The two gentlemen pleaded not guilty to all the 27 charges proffered against them. 

The sitting judge, Justice C. J . Honyenuga, an Appeals Court judge, later held a closed-door meeting with prosecutors and defense team of the accused to outline modalities for the trial.
