Photos: KNUST students leave campus after violent protest

Students of  the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) were seen  leaving  campus  on Tuesday following a directive from the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC).

REGSEC  gave  the directive   after  a violent protest by students on Monday.

While some of the student are seen leaving on thier own others are seeing being escorte by thier parents.

The Ashanti Regional Security Council has  closed down the  Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology after a peaceful demonstration turned violent on Monday.

The decision was taken after a meeting between the Security Council and other stakeholders.

The eleven students were arrested after embarking on a procession, which has been outlawed by the university authorities.

However, the students believe last Friday’s arrest coupled with some recorded incidents indicate that they are being oppressed by the university authorities hence Monday’s demonstration on campus.

In a viral video, students were seen vandalizing motorbikes and other properties at the security post, where their arrested colleagues were allegedly being held.

Security on campus was  beefed up following the violent nature of Monday’s protest. The demonstration has the endorsement of the KNUST’s SRC.
