A medical doctor, Dr George Donkoh has schooled that the damages caused by plastic chemicals in humans is not limited to men but women also.
His comments follows a report that the use of plastic chemicals for food consumption causes male reproductive disorders.
As reported, a Urologist Consultant at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Dr Akisbadek Afoko revealed recently that the chemicals used to produce plastics accounts for increased male reproductive disorders, including low sperm count, low libido, kidney stones and malformed penis, particularly among young people in the country.
That is because the chemicals mix up with water and food preserved in plastics, which when constantly consumed, affects the reproductive hormones.
The Urologist Consultant noted that male reproductive health had become a big problem among males, and should be given equal attention, just as female reproductive disorders, such as uterus and cervical cancers.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie with Nana Yaw Fianko, Dr George Donkoh explained further that certain chemicals in the polythene or plastics known as endocrine disrupting chemicals which affects the endocrine system of men.
Aside from leading to prostate diseases, the chemicals in the plastic can also cause obesity in humans because it stores fat that are not needed.
However, he said it could also affect the fertility level in women, adding that consuming hot meals tied in plastic wrappers like porridge, banku, kenkey, rice and others can also cause breast cancer and diabetes.
Dr George Donkoh again said the damage was not limited to only plastic wrappers used for porridge and or banku but also sachet water and plastic bottled water.
He said when they are exposed to ultraviolet rays from the sun, the chemicals in the plastic are transferred into the water, making it dangerous for consumption.
He, therefore, urged all to be cautious of the use of plastics for food, especially hot meals, adding that going organic was the best way.
