Population Gives Nigerian Musicians advantage in Global Music – Abochi

Abochi

Ghanaian musician and producer Abochi has attributed part of Nigeria’s success in producing globally recognised music stars to the country’s larger population and wider domestic market.

Speaking to Babiee Dappah on Atinka TV‘s Klub 99, Abochi said population plays an important role in determining how quickly musicians can build large fan bases and gain international attention.

“Population plays a crucial role in shaping superstars and stars,” he said.

According to Abochi, Nigeria’s large population gives its musicians access to a bigger home audience, which can translate into higher local streaming numbers, faster fan engagement and greater organic reach.

He said the strong domestic market also gives Nigerian artistes an advantage when it comes to trending on digital platforms, filling large venues and attracting international record labels.

Abochi, however, noted that talent and investment remain important factors in the growth of any music industry.

He said comparisons between Ghana and Nigeria should also take into account the significant difference in population and market size between the two countries.
