Prez. Mahama mourns with Interior Minister at Mother’s final funeral rites

Kumasi came to a solemn standstill on Sunday, February 9, 2025, as dignitaries from across Ghana gathered at Aboabo Park for the final funeral rites of the late mother of the Minister for Interior and Member of Parliament for Asawase, Hon. Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka.

Representing President John Dramani Mahama, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, delivered a heartfelt tribute to the bereaved family, acknowledging the deep loss of a mother who was a pillar of faith and service.

Addressing a distinguished audience that included the National Chief Imam, representatives from Manhyia Palace, Members of Parliament, government officials, and community leaders, Dr. Amoakohene conveyed the President’s condolences.

“His Excellency, the President, had every intention to be here in person to stand with you in this moment of grief. However, due to an urgent national assignment, he is unable to join us physically. Nonetheless, his thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family and the people of Asawase,” – he stated.

Recognizing the irreplaceable role of a mother, he drew inspiration from both the Holy Quran and the Bible, reminding mourners of the fleeting nature of life and the importance of living with integrity, love, and compassion.

“The loss of a mother is a profound sorrow, as she is the foundation of wisdom and the embodiment of unconditional love. We take solace in the fact that she has left behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations,”  he added.

Beyond mourning, the Ashanti Regional Minister used the occasion to reaffirm the government’s commitment to the development of the Ashanti Region.

He emphasized ongoing efforts to improve roads, healthcare, education, and stalled infrastructural projects that require urgent attention.

“This region is not just a historical and cultural center but a key economic hub. The President remains committed to ensuring its progress,” he assured.

As the ceremony drew to a close, prayers were offered for the departed soul, asking Allah to grant her Jannatul Firdaus.

Dr. Amoakohene urged the community to continue standing together in unity and compassion, emphasizing that the government remains dedicated to working with traditional and religious leaders for the greater good of Ghana.

The event saw a massive turnout, reflecting the deep respect and influence of the Interior Minister and his family in the Asawase constituency.
