Rawlings goes home

The final burial service for the late ex -president Jerry John Rawlings has been held in Accra today at the Black Star Square.

The four-day state funeral which started on Sunday with a Requiem Mass at the Holy Spirit Cathedral and a vigil at the Air Force Officers Mess ends today with burial, with full military honours at the new Military Cemetery at Burma Camp.

The remains of JJ Rawlings were laid in state at the foyer of the Accra International Conference Centre for Ghanaians and foreigners to pay their last respects on Monday and Tuesday.

On Wednesday, January 2021, a lot of dignitaries also converged at the Black Stars Square to pay their last respect to Papa J.

Some who were present were former President, John Agyekum Kufour, former President John Dramani Mahama, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his Wife, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and his Wife, Samira Bawumia.

Others were the Liberian President, George Weah, the General Secretary for the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketis, Alhaji Hudu Yahya, the Military, the family of the deceased and many more important persons.

There were tributes from Wife of JJ Rawlings, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings which was read by her daughter, Amina Agyemang-Rawlings, one from his children which was also read by Dr Zenator Agyemang-Rawlings, one from the NDC, and from President Akufo-Addo.

There was also wreaths laying by his wife, children, members from the Agbotui family of which his mother belongs, the NDC and others to show love to Papa J.

Prayers was also said for him as he joins his maker in heaven.
