The Ashaiman under bridge which was closed to traffic on Friday evening to pave way for repair works, is yet reopen following the failure of contractors to meet their deadline.
The contractors were scheduled to complete repair works on the under-bridge on Sunday evening and reopen it to traffic at 4am Monday morning. However, a visit to the the construction site on Sunday and Monday morning revealed contractors are behind schedule.
When Atinka TV got to the site on Monday morning, contractors were busily fixing new iron rod mesh after drilling off the old concrete which was in deplorable state.
Supervisors on site who spoke to Atinka TV off camera said they were hopeful of applying the concrete to the surface of the road when they are done with the iron rod mesh.
According to them, the failure to meet the Sunday deadline had to do with the delay in the arrival of materials to the site, stressing that the delay will give them ample time to do a good job.
However, some drivers who thought works on the underbridge had been completed were left disappointed when they found out work was still ongoing.
Meanwhile, the situation has worsened the vehicular traffic situation on some roads in Ashaiman and parts of Tema.
Due to the delays, drivers have to stick to the alternative routes provided during the closure of the underpass.
However, authorities of the Ghana Highways said they were confident the repair works on the Ashaiman underbridge would be completed by close of Monday , February 24, 2020.
