Speaking on Atinka TV‘s morning show, Ghana Nie, Mr Abass Ibrahim Tasunti said as regulators of the industry, they always talk with the sector ministry when fuel price goes up..

“When you look at the way fuel price is going up in the world, it is affecting every country and not just Ghana. Every Country, including European countries are suffering the hike in fuel prices. As a country, on a regular basis, we at the NPA who are the regulators of the industry always talk with the sector ministry anytime we feel we can talk about it so that the prices can be reduced,” he said.

Mr Abass Ibrahim Tasunti said last year, in November- December, the government reduced some of the taxes on fuel prices, saying it was as a result of the talks with the government to do something about the hike in fuel prices.

He said looking at the law and the way the fuel price is going up, it is not easy for government to reduce it, hence the need for talks in order to arrive at a favourable point.

When asked if they have a specific proposal to the Finance Ministry, he said they have put down a proposal but will not disclose it to the public until everything is finalized.

“We cannot stop the world price from going up but it is also very difficult to tell that the price will go down with this percentage or that percentage,” he said.
