SDA reaffirms Sabbath sanctity amidst voting season

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Ghana has issued a statement reaffirming its commitment to the sanctity of the Sabbath day, amidst the upcoming voting season (2024 poll).

The Church recognises the civic responsibility of its members to participate in the democratic process but maintains that voting on Saturday, the Sabbath, contradicts their deeply held religious beliefs.

In a statement released to all Adventist churches in Ghana, the Church emphasised the spiritual significance of the Sabbath, observed from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday.

This day, according to the statement, is dedicated to worship, rest, and communion with God, encouraging its members to refrain from non-religious activities, including voting.

It continued that the Church’s stance was rooted in its longstanding conviction and teaching, which prioritises the sacredness of the Sabbath.

While acknowledging the importance of civic engagement, the Adventist Church in Ghana urged its members to explore alternative voting arrangements that do not compromise their religious principles.

The statement serves as a reminder to Adventists in Ghana of their unique identity and the importance of upholding their beliefs, even in the face of civic obligations.

As the Church navigates the intersection of faith and civic responsibility, it added that it remained committed to its core values and principles.
