Seven perish on Bolga -Bawku road as mini bus rams into parked truck

Seven persons died on the spot whilst several others sustained various degrees of injuries when a mini bus with registration number GR-9895-N drove into a parked articulator truck on the shoulders of the Bolgatanga -Bawku highway Monday.

The accident occurred on the Yikurugu stretch of the highway in the Bawku West District of the Upper East region.

Information gathered by Atinka News revealed that the victims were in a Yutong bus from Kumasi and joined the mini bus in Bolga to their final destination.
Four of the injured passengers are currently being given medical care at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital and Zebilla government  hospital.

Families of the deceased have identified and collected the bodies of the dead.

Meanwhile, the MP for Zebilla constituency and Deputy Upper East regional minister, Frank Fuseini Adongo visited the accident scene. He commended the Bawku West Police Command for their quick response to the unfortunate incident.
Mr. Adongo also commended the doctors and nurses at the Zebila Hospital for being proactive.

The District Chief Executive for Bawku West, Victoria Ayamaba, appealed to district and regional road safety department to intensify education on road safety in the region.

Mrs. Ayamba charged the contractors working on the road to as a matter of urgency provide speed rams on the road, particularly the villages along the road. She also lauded the Bawku West District Fire Service Officers for their support.

The Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom road since it was awarded to Mawums Construction Limited and a Brazilian Construction firm Queiroz Galvao in 2016, have recorded numerous accidents as a result of governments’ inability to release funds to speed up the work on the road.

The Brazilian construction firm left site since February this year saying the government has not been able to honor its eleven certificates issued last year.

Residents in Bawku have in the past appealed to the government through various channels to as a matter of urgency release funds to enable the contractors to fix the road on time.
