‘You can’t change Korle-Bu ‘radically’- CEO

The Chief Executive Officer of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Felix Kwaku Anyah,  says the nation’s premier teaching hospital, which has a working population of 5,000 cannot be changed radically.

He explained that one must be strategic in dealing with issues concerning Korle-Bu.  ‘’ You have to do strategic things and if the strategy involves radical things, fine, but you should be able to think effectively.  The most important thing is to first go through the human resource, go through why people are behaving the way they are.’’

“People can have all the equipment they need, but if the people don’t have the right attitudes, the right belief systems, the right thinking, it will be useless,’’ he stressed.

Dr.  Anyah, who doubles as Chairman of Holy Trinity Medical Center in Accra, Holy Trinity Spa and Health Farm and Holy Trinity Resort at  Sogakope was speaking to Atinka FM over the weekend after a Thanksgiving party to celebrate over  20 years of achievements with over 40 awards both nationally and internationally.

His latest awards include Overall Best CEO of the year 2017 and Best Healthcare CEO of the year 2017 (Public Sector).

Dr. Anyah said it is advisable to add hospital management as a course to the syllabi in health institutions in order to help professionals exceed expectations.  “Some health professionals in some institutions are only taught how to inject people and some exclusive hospital works, but if they are taught these managerial skills, it will help them deliver up to expectations,’’ he stressed.

He  further said when he assumed office as CEO of Korle- Bu, he was able to solve some teething problems within nine days due to his vast entrepreneurial skills.

Dr. Anyah said Korle-bu can stand on its own if it is allowed to work independently. ‘’The prices Korle-bu charges for everything is controlled by Parliament and it is not reviewed on a day –to- day basis. If Korle-bu will be allowed to fix its own prices and to compete on the market without the prices being fixed by parliament or the price being reviewed properly, professionally in terms of accounting and not politics by parliament, then we will have no problems,’’ he emphasized.
