The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George, has asked the Minister for Communication and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, to listen to the telcos with respect to punitive actions against persons yet to register their sim cards.

This statement by Sam George comes after the Minister for Communication and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful asked mobile telephony subscribers not blame their service providers for failure to register their SIM cards.

According to her, a full raft of punitive measures will soon be rolled out against those who fail to register their SIM Cards, using the Ghana Card.

In a Facebook post, Ursula Owusu said a subsequent press conference in September, the full scope of the sanctions will be revealed.

“If you suffer that fate as a result of your own inaction, kindly do not blame your service provider. To be forewarned is to be forearmed”, she said.

The communication Minister emphasised that her outfit will not extend the deadline for the registration of SIM Cards in the country; adding that, “After evaluation at the end of August, it has been determined that starting the disciplinary steps outlined in the NCA press release is prudent.

Reacting to the issue on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, MP for Prampram expressed disappointment in the fact that the Sim Registration App is still inactive.

He reveled that IOS users cannot download the app not to talk of registering their sim cards on the app.

“We want her to listen to the wisdom of industry players. The telcos are not stupid. In 2017 when NDC handed power to the NPP, The sector was growing by 26%. We had MTN doing well, Vodafone as a strong company, Airtel standing strong, Tigo doing well with the exception of Glo. As we speak in 2021 when everyone had gone digital, the industry grew by just 2%. The Communication Ministry and the NCA are killing the telcos,” he added.
