The Public Relations officer for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in Tema, Sekyiwaa Mensah, has defended the shut down of the ECG office in Somanya in the Yilo Krobo District of the Eastern Region.

ECG recently shut down its office in Somanya in the Yilo Krobo District of the Eastern Region due to safety concerns.

The Managing Director of ECG, Mr Kwame Agyemang, on Monday, 6 December 2021, at a press conference said the district office was shut down to protect the lives of the workers of the state power distributor.

He said the office, which was shut down on Wednesday, 1 December 2021, has been relocated to Juapong in the Volta Region.

He noted that although the office had been relocated, it will operate on any faults reported in Lower Manya and Yilo Krobo with police protection.

“To protect the lives of our staff, which we dare not compromise on, we, henceforth, will operate the district from Juapong office; and going forward, any faults intervention, or any call to correct any anomaly in the system within the Yilo Krobo and Lower Manya Krobo communities will be dependent on the availability of police escort,” Mr Kwame Agyemang told press men.

Commenting on the issue on Atinka FM’s AM Drive, The Public Relations officer for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in Tema, Sekyiwaa Mensah, said the shutdown of the ECG office in Tema was necessary as the lives of the staff were in danger.

According to her, no employee will agree to work in an environment where their lives are in danger.

“ There is an issue and we are trying to address it. Why do you threaten and decide to vandalize?,” she quizzed.
