The Member of Parliament for Mpohor Constituency, Mr. John Kobina Abbam Aboah Sanie, has urged political leaders to educate their followers to learn to control themselves as far as hate speeches or violence are concerned.

His advice comes in the wake of the arrest of Razak Koampa Avoliya, the NDC Youth Organiser for Suame, for making a hateful speech.

He was captured in a viral video charging NDC members in Suame to violently attack any New Patriotic Party (NPP) member who would misbehave during the 2024 polls.

Koampa Avoliya, who instigated NDC party members on Sunday, surrendered himself to the police yesterday to help with investigations.
The suspect would be sent to court today on a provisional charge of ‘offensive conduct.”

Speaking on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie with Ama Gyenfa Ofosu Darkwa, Mr. John Kobina Abbam Aboah Sanie said, “I would encourage political leaders to educate their followers to control themselves; it is not the first time the NDC or NPP will lose elections.”

Touching on the same issue On the morning show, Former Greater Accra Chairman for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Joseph Ade Coker said Razak Koampa Avoliya was arrested because he is not a ‘big man’, adding that some ‘big men’ have done worse things but they were not arrested.

Reacting to this, Mr John Kobina Abbam Aboah Sanie said that was not true, noting that even though Ken Agyapong was a ‘big man’ in the NPP, he was arrested when he made hateful comments.

“In Ghana, we deal with the law, and so if someone says something and it does not help, and the law catches you, we should allow the law to deal with the person,” he said.

He continued that,”I have a video a Former President made certain utterances which does not help so moving forward, as politicians, let us project our manifesto, our vision, our intent, what we can help the country with when we are voted for, but the hateful speeches and the threats that will not bring anything but chaos should stop.”

To electorates, the MP said, “If you are a voter, or if you are faithful to a political party, you have one vote.” “When you cast your vote, go home. When it’s 6.p.m. and you want to witness the counting, go back to the center with all the witnesses writing. When they finish counting peacefully, we’re gone. Why do you want to fight for a parliamentary candidate? Why are you risking your life to engage in riots?”
