Taxi carrying 12 pupils crash at Mampong Akuapem; 3 dead

Three school children have met their untimely death, after a car which was conveying them crashed at Mampong Akuapem in the Eastern Region.

The three children, Jerry Quartey, Osten Kwaku and Albert Odame Sarfo, were among 12 schoolchildren being driven home from school on Tuesday, 7 December 2021 in a taxicab with registration number GS 5736-09 at Mampong Akuapem.

The taxi collided head-on with an unregistered Toyota Camry on the Mampong Akuapem stretch.

Drivers of both vehicles and the other pupils sustained various degrees of injuries are receiving treatment at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital.

Two of the injured children were also rushed to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and Ridge Hospital in Accra.

The Eastern Regional Police Command has confirmed the incident and have declared the drivers of both vehicles suspects.

Both cars have been impounded.
