With the 2020 general elections producing some shocking results, a similar situation happened at Tema East constituency, where the NPP incumbent, Titus Glover has been given an electric shock by his main rival, Isaac Ashai Odamtten.
After several hours of collating results which stretched into the next day following Monday’s voting, Isaac Ashai Odamtten won with a margin of 9,431 votes after polling 41, 661 as against the 32,230 votes polled by the incumbent Daniel Titus Glover.
The Ghana Union Movement GUM’s candidate, Stephen Adjei, also polled a surprising vote of 576, whiles some 663 invalid votes were recorded.
In the presidential race, President Akufo -Addo polled 35,392 whiles John Dramani Mahama got 37, 949 with Rev Christian Andrews also polling some 656 votes out of a total valid votes of 75,112, representing a high voter turnout.
This was the first time both an NDC Parliamentary candidate and presidential candidate have won the Tema East seat since 1992 elections.
Returning officer of the Tema Metro EC office, Samuel Jerry Ankomah, declared the former Mayor as the newly elected parliamentarian for Tema East constituency to the admiration of a charged crowd
In his acceptance speech, Isaac Ashai Odamtten, commended the people of Tema East for reposing their trust in him, promising he will work hard to repay them. He said he’s committed to serving his constituents and ensuring development and the growth of persons within the Tema East Constituency
Thousands of his supporters who walked several kilometers to the collation center after hearing the good news, amidst singing and drumming, escorted the former Tema mayor back to his family house in Tema Newtown where he addressed a large gathering there.
