Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has received one million barrels of Ghana’s indigenous Jubilee Medium Sweet Crude, marking another major step in the revival of the country’s only state-owned refinery.
The crude cargo, delivered aboard MT Apache on July 15, 2026, fulfils President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to ensuring that crude oil produced in Ghana is refined locally to create jobs, add value to the economy and strengthen the country’s energy security.
This is the second time TOR has received one million barrels of Ghanaian-produced crude under President Mahama’s leadership. The first shipment was delivered in December 2016 during his previous administration, demonstrating his long-standing commitment to the refinery’s growth and the development of Ghana’s petroleum industry.
The latest shipment is also the third one-million-barrel crude cargo received by TOR since May 2026, following deliveries of Bonga and Baleine crude. These supplies have enabled the refinery to continue producing petroleum products for both the local and regional markets while reducing Ghana’s reliance on imported refined products.
The Board, Management and Staff of Tema Oil Refinery have expressed their sincere appreciation to President Mahama for his vision, leadership and continued support in restoring the refinery to full operations. They said his confidence in TOR continues to inspire efforts to achieve operational excellence and contribute to national development.
The refinery also commended the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, for his leadership and strategic direction, which have helped restore refining operations and ensure a steady supply of crude oil.
TOR further acknowledged the support of its partners, including crude suppliers Fujeirah and Triangle Trading Commodities, regulators, financiers, logistics providers and technical partners, whose collaboration has contributed to the refinery’s ongoing recovery.
The refinery reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the President’s vision of building a stronger petroleum industry by linking Ghana’s upstream and downstream sectors, creating jobs, enhancing energy security, reducing import dependence and positioning Ghana as a leading refining hub in West Africa.
