The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has referred its Bono Regional Chairman, Mr. Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, to the party’s National Disciplinary Committee for making public statements deemed to breach internal directives and threaten party unity.
The decision was made at a high-level meeting of the party’s National Steering Committee on Tuesday, June 24.
In a press release signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party cautioned Abronye over his continued use of unguarded language, especially via his social media platform Ohia TV, which has become a steady outlet for sharp criticism — often indirectly aimed at one particular presidential hopeful.
Sources within the party say this growing trend of factional commentary on social media has become a concern for party unity, prompting the leadership to act swiftly. The referral to the Disciplinary Committee could result in sanctions ranging from a formal reprimand to possible suspension, depending on the Committee’s findings.
In a bid to stem internal tensions ahead of the presidential primaries, the Steering Committee has also summoned all declared presidential aspirants to a joint meeting with the National Council of Elders.
The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 3, 2025, and is expected to address issues of internal cohesion, discipline, and electoral strategy.
Additionally, the party has ordered an immediate halt to all unauthorized caucuses and informal associations involving past and present executives and government appointees meeting with aspirants.
Such gatherings, the party noted, are in violation of existing regulations and undermine a level playing field.
Reiterating its call for discipline, the party reminded members of their constitutional duty to uphold unity, support party decisions, and avoid actions that could fracture the party’s internal cohesion as it gears up for the 2025 primaries and election 2028 at large.
The coming weeks will be pivotal for the NPP as it works to manage internal dynamics while preparing for a competitive presidential primary. The outcome of the disciplinary proceedings against Abronye could serve as a signal to others navigating the tightrope of party loyalty and political ambition.
