Veep’s digitalization agenda way to go – Expert

Fred Oduro on digitalization

Governance Expert, Fred Oduro, says the current digitalization reforms being taken by government is a step in the right direction.

According to Fred Oduro, digitalization has become a necessity and so efforts to make Ghana’s economy digitized is not a bad idea.

As part of efforts to transform Ghana’s economy, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, while delivering a public lecture on the impact of Government’s digitalisation initiatives at the Brekuso Campus of the Ashesi University,  hinted efforts by government to get the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) to recognise the Ghana-Card as an e-passport by the first quarter of next year.

Bawumia said the efforts are to allow the Card to be read and verified in ICAO compliant countries and enable holders of the card to board flights to 197 countries and 44,000 airports worldwide.

Additionally, Ghanaian diasporans who are holding the Ghana-Card would not obtain visas to travel to the country.

Dr Bawumia noted that digitalisation held huge prospects for the Ghanaian youth and urged them to embrace it to propel national development.

Governance Expert, Fred Oduro, who spoke in an interview with host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, noted that the global world is gradually turning into a digitized world hence the need for Ghana to join the race.

He cited online businesses that are thriving for the fact that they are digitized and persons outside Ghana can patronize.

“It underscores the fact that as a country we need to move forward in a certain direction. There is no question about the necessity for some of these things,  We may have all our challenges as a country but If we fail to do some of these things which include this digitalization, the country will be left out in the global world. Personally, I believe the Transforming Ghana’s Economy through Digitilisation course by the Vice President is good if only we can do it well ,” Governance Expert Fred Oduro told Kaakyire Ofori Ayim.
