Victor Gbeho dumps Mahama, roots for Alabi

Efforts by former Vice Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) to secure the privilege to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has received a major boost with the coming on board of respected statesman Victor Gbeho.

The former Foreign Affairs Minister who commands some considerable respect within the NDC believes Prof. Alabi represents “hope for the NDC” who suffered an embarrassing lost in the 2016 election.

Speaking to the grassroot of the NDC in Ashaiman, Ambassador Victor Gbeho said he expected the leadership which led the party into 2016 to have stepped aside by now to allow the party room to rebrand.

“In democracies all around the world, when you go to an election and lose as badly as we did, the leadership steps aside. Not because we want to sack people but it gives the party the opportunity to rebrand itself, to look at its faults and change its ways, and that is what we are doing now,” he stated.

Victor Gbeho insists Prof. Alabi has what it takes to lead the party to victory in 2020 because he has, whenever given the opportunity, proven that he is the transformational leader Ghana needs.

He referred to Prof. Alabi’s work at UPSA where he transformed what used to be the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) under the University of Ghana, Legon to UPSA, an independent institution which is attracting attention across the country.

“So let us just not follow somebody because he looks nice. Joshua Alabi has proven to us that he is somebody who can manage things. Get somebody who has proven to us that he can run himself, he can make things for us.”

“…If we choose amongst ourselves to look some other way in order to go and follow somebody who hasn’t proven himself or somebody who is a failure somewhere else, then we would have ourselves to blame,” he stated.

Ambassador Gbeho urged party members to throw their weight behind Prof. Alabi’s candidature.

“We have joined forces with Prof. Joshua Alabi because we think that is where the salvation of this country is going to come from. We are in this team to win. We are not in this team to play second fiddle to any other party, especially the NPP,” he said.
